The NFL says New England Patriots receiver Josh Gordon has been returned to the reserve/commissioner suspended list indefinitely for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the league’s substance abuse policy. He missed the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Gordon was reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in 2017 and at the time revealed in an interview with GQ magazine that he drank or used marijuana before games.
Second-ranked Duke earned its 35th victory at Madison Square Garden while pinning twelfth ranked Texas Tech with its first loss of the season. Zion Williamson and fellow freshman RJ Barrett led the Blue Devils to a 69-58 win over the Red Raiders. Williamson provided 17 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out with 3:51 remaining. Barrett has 16 points for the 11-1 Blue Devils, who closed the game on a 16-5 run. The Red Raiders fell to 10-1, losing for the first time since the NCAA regional finals despite Jarrett Culver’s 25 points.
Marcus Zegarowski scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures and Creighton set a Big East record with 22 three-pointers last night to beat Division III Coe 110-60. Ten different Bluejay players made at least one three-pointer as they passed the record of 21 three-pointers they set against Villanova in January of 2014. Zegarowski was 6-8 from the arc and Ty-Shon Alexander made 4-8 from long distance. Creighton finished 22-37 from three-point range. The Bluejays improve to 8-4 on the season.
Nebraska linebacker Jacob Weinmaster, a former walk-on who was placed on scholarship before the 2018 season, is retiring from football due to medical reasons according to the Omaha World Herald. Weinmaster spent time on special teams and as a reserve linebacker, playing in eleven games recording 13 tackles. The product of Colorado joined the Husker program as a walk-on in 2015. Weinmaster redshirted that season and was named defensive MVP of the scout team. He missed all of 2016 due to injury, then played in all twelve games as a sophomore in 2017. Weinmaster was one of four returning scholarship inside linebackers with senior Mohamed Barry and juniors Collin Miller and Will Honas.
Nebraska volleyball outside hitter Sami Slaughter is transferring to South Dakota according to the Omaha World Herald. Slaughter, who is from South Dakota, spent two seasons as a Husker reserve. She played in 16 career matches, six as a freshman in 2017 and ten this past season. Slaughter had 25 kills and eleven digs in 2018. She will enroll at South Dakota for the spring semester and have two seasons of eligibility remaining. South Dakota is coming off its first NCAA tournament appearance.
