IN THE NEWS: APPLE TO EXPAND TO TEXAS
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Apple is spreading its wings. It says it plans to build a $1 billion campus in Austin, Texas, that will create at least 5,000 jobs, ranging from engineers to call-center agents. The decision, announced yesterday, comes 11 months after Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company planned to open a major office outside its home base of California. The movie will also be a big deal for Austin — in that it will further enhance a Southwestern town that has already emerged as a bustling tech center. Apple says it will also open offices in Seattle, San Diego and Culver City, California over the next three years. Each of those offices will employ at least 1,000 workers. Apple has also pledged to add hundreds of jobs each in New York; Pittsburgh; Boston; Boulder, Colorado; and Portland, Oregon.
IN THE NEWS: FACEBOOK’S “POP-UP”
NEW YORK (AP) — It was just one of the things people could do in New York City’s Bryant Park yesterday — aside from shop for Christmas gifts, scarf down food from a variety of vendors or take a few turns around the ice skating rink. Yesterday, Facebook hosted a one-day “pop-up” event in the Manhattan park. The arrangement was designed to get people to come in from the cold to sip hot chocolate — and discuss a hot topic in the tech industry: privacy. Facebook has had a series of problems stemming from how the world’s largest social networking sites collects, analyzes and uses the personal information gleaned from users use the site for everything from games to keeping up with family and world news. Facebook has held similar events in Dubai, Dublin and London.
ON THE WEB: STARBUCKS TO EXPAND DELIVERY
CYBERSPACE (AP) — It already seems there is a Starbucks on just about every corner of big cities. Now, it appears the coffee monger is making steps to end up at your front door or office, too. The company is expanding delivery to more stores in the U.S. and China. Starbucks says it will offer delivery from 2,000 U.S. stores by next summer. The deliveries will be part of a partnership with UberEats. In China, delivery will be offered from 2,000 stores in 30 cities by the end of this year, up from 150 stores at the end of September.

IN STORES: SOUND OASIS TINNITUS SOUND THERAPY SYSTEM S-680-02
MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (AP) — There are a lot of people who suffer from tinnitus — basically, they perceive sounds where there is no external source of it. The resulting “hearing” of sounds like ringing, clicking, hissing or roaring can be maddening — especially when trying to sleep. The people at Sound Oasis have developed the Tinnitus Sound Therapy System — a relatively small device that can deliver big relief to tinnitus patients. It’s basically a sound box and clock combined in one. But it’s the sounds embedded in the box that make it possible to get a good night’s sleep. There are 24 sounds included — including those understood to help promote sleep like ocean surfs, white noise, rain and streams. There are other customizable sounds available as downloads, though having the two dozen that come with the product seems to cover all the bases. The Sound Oasis device also has a backlit alarm clock, a sleep timer — and can run on battery power or AC.
