KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Chamique Holdsclaw had 39 points and became the second Tennessee player with 2,000 in her career as the No. 1 Lady Volunteers stayed undefeated with a 79-63 over Auburn on Saturday.

Holdsclaw, who has 2,036 points, joins Bridgette Gordon in the Lady Vols’ 2,000-point club.

Tennessee (28-0, 12-0 Southeastern Conference) had a 38-33 advantage at halftime, but Holdsclaw and Tamika Catchings sparked an early second-half surge that put the Lady Vols in control.

Holdsclaw and Kellie Jolly converted consecutive steals into layups as Tennessee took a 54-41 lead with 14:24 left. Tennessee then hit the offensive boards for three more baskets, including two by Holdsclaw, to push the lead to 60-43.

Auburn (14-10, 3-10) could not get closer than 68-58 late in the game.

Catchings had 17 points for Tennessee. Tiffany Krantz had 16 points for Auburn, and Justine Agbatan had 14.

Tennessee started fast in the first half, taking an 8-2 lead in the first three minutes. But Krantz hit a 3-pointer and Erin McGinnis a follow to cut it to 12-9.

The Lady Vols then began an 18-5 run that pushed the lead to 30-14 midway through the half.

Tennessee struggled offensively the remainder of the half, with Auburn scoring eight of the last 12 points.
