Funeral to be held Wednesday for slain San Marcos officer
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Services are scheduled next week for a Texas police officer who was fatally shot while trying to serve a warrant on a domestic violence suspect.
San Marcos police say Officer Kenneth Copeland’s funeral will be Wednesday at Community Bible Church in San Antonio. Interment follows on the church grounds.
Copeland was shot Monday. Authorities say an officer returned fire and shot Stewart Thomas Mettz, who was transported to a hospital where he remained Thursday in law enforcement custody. His condition wasn’t disclosed.
Officials say Mettz has been charged with capital murder of a peace officer and ordered held without bond. He’s also charged with family violence assault and injury to an elderly person for allegedly attacking his wife and mother-in-law.
Online records don’t list an attorney to speak for Mettz.
