Sri Lanka reaches 279-7 vs. South Africa in WCup warmup
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — Veteran Tillakaratne Dilshan smashed a quick-fire century to lead Sri Lanka to 279-7 after batting first on Monday in a rain-affected Cricket World Cup warmup against South Africa.
Dilshan reached 100 from 82 deliveries before he was out next ball, having shared parnerships of 76 for the second wicket with Kumar Sangakkara (31) and 74 for the third wicket with Dimuth Karunaratne (46).
Captain Angelo Mathews then made 58 from 49 deliveries before rain forced the end of the Sri Lanka innings after 44.4 overs.
Kyle Abbott was the best of the South Africa bowlers, taking 3-37 from 6.4 overs while Wayne Parnell took 2-44.
South Africa rested captain A.B. de Villiers for the match because of tightness in his hip. Hashim Amla led the Proteas in de Villiers’ place.
