Rosenberg to get at least one new council member

March 6, 2019

Three positions are up for election in May for the Rosenberg City Council, with at least one new member guaranteed to serve following the election.

Incumbent Mayor William Benton and Position 1 Councilor Jacob Balderas will seek to retain their spots.

Position 2 Councilor Amanda J. Barta, who was first elected to the Position 2 spot in May 2015, announced in January that she would not seek re-election. Prior to her current position, she served as District 4 Councilor since June 2013. According to a news release from the city, Barta withdrew her application after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“It has been an immense honor and pleasure to serve the city of Rosenberg,” Barta said in the news release. “I want to thank my fellow council members, city staff, and of course, our citizens. It has been a challenge and a gift to help guide this growing city in the right direction.”

The election is scheduled for May 4. Early voting begins April 22.
