Part of river closed off to hunters for investigation
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut agency has announced the temporary closure to hunting of an area along the Quinnipiac River.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says Wednesday the area along the river in New Haven from the southernmost top of Fargeorge Preserve to north of the I-91 highway bridge will be closed for one-year.
This is at the request of the New Haven Police Chief for the DEEP to review public safety concerns related to waterfowl hunting in the area. Police say there are reports to gunshots in the vicinity that are diverting public safety resources.
The DEEP will review three-years of “hunting-related incidences” and make a recommendation to the Office of the Commissioner for further action for hunting on that portion of the river.
