Johnnie Cochran Visits Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) _ Johnnie Cochran visited the city in which he lived as a small child, eating grits and stuffed shrimp between taping a cable show for Black History Month and talking to students.
The lawyer best known as a member the defense team that won O.J. Simpson’s acquittal in a murder trial moved to California when he was 6 _ but still gets the hometown hero treatment when he comes back to Shreveport.
``He didn’t forget where he came from,″ said Felecia Williams, 29. ``So many leaders from here leave and have great success but don’t ever come back.″
Cochran spoke one-on-one with several Woodlawn High School students Friday and later addressed a packed gym at Southern University-Shreveport, discussing faith in God and the value of education.
