Interpreter for Peking Circus Seeks Asylum in France
PARIS (AP) _ An interpreter for a Chinese circus troupe has applied for political asylum in France, authorities said Wednesday.
Officials in the south-central town of Perigueux said Ni Zhi Quin, 43, filed the application Tuesday at a local administrative office. She arrived in the area Dec. 30 after leaving the Peking Circus during a series of performances in Paris.
The woman reportedly left her husband and a son behind in China. The officials gave no indication of her motive for seeking asylum and did not say when the government’s refugee agency would rule on her application.
