Woman Gives Birth on Birthday ... And That of Her Mother

December 20, 1991

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ The gift came on the day Kristi Olson-Heng didn’t want to get it - her birthday.

Now, she’ll need triple helpings of cake, ice cream and party hats.

On Wednesday, Olson-Heng, 27, gave birth to a son, Jarren Richard. It’s also her mother’s birthday.

″It’s the one day I didn’t want to have a baby,″ Olson-Heng said. ″I wanted him to have his own special day.″

″But once you get the gift, it’s an awfully nice gift,″ she added.

Olson-Heng said that as a child, she always felt sorry for her mom, Fran Olson, because they had to share birthdays.

″And mom always felt sorry for me,″ Olson-Heng said. ″But we also considered ourselves lucky.″

Bill Bell, a U.S. Census Bureau mathematician, said the odds of three generations of one family being born on the same day are one in 133,225.

Olson-Heng and her husband, Jeff Heng, have three other children - all with different birthdays.
