Brown Claims Victory Among GOP Write-in Votes

May 25, 2019

It appears George Brown will cruise to victory in November’s election for Wilkes-Barre mayor after he also captured the Republican nomination through a write-in effort.

After watching Friday’s official election result count, Brown said he received 485 Republican write-in votes to 108 for incumbent Mayor Tony George.

In Tuesday’s Democratic primary, Brown received 2,721 votes to 845 for George.

No Republican was on the ballot.

“I am humbled and happy that both the Republican and Democratic voters of Wilkes-Barre have placed their trust in me to lead our city over the next four years,” Brown said.

George, a former police chief and councilman, defeated Brown and two others in the 2015 Democratic primary prior to winning the general election in the fall.
