Major Drug Bust Nets 183 Pounds of Heroin
BOSTON (AP) _ Law enforcement agents arrested four people and seized 183 pounds of nearly pure heroin from Hong Kong, authorities said.
The drugs seized Wednesday had a street value in the hundreds of millions of dollars, authorities said. The drugs were tracked from Logan International Airport, where they were discovered two weeks ago, hidden under machine parts, authorities said.
Federal and local agents trailed the shipment to a commercial building in south Boston where it was seized, according to a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Officials refused to identify the four arrested Wednesday.
Ed Callanan, a spokesman for the U.S. Customs Service in Boston, confirmed the amount and quality heroin seized, but refused to elaborate.
U.S. Attorney Frank L. MacNamara said he could not comment on the arrest.
″We’re doing our best to complete a mission and when I’m able to comment officially I will do so,″ MacNamara said.
