UCF-WIMBUSH

Former Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush says he is transferring to Central Florida, where he will be eligible to play next season as a graduate transfer. Wimbush announced on social media Monday he would attend UCF next season. He started 16 games for the Fighting Irish over the last two seasons, including the first three of 2018. Wimbush lost his starting job to Ian Book, but helped the Irish to a 12-0 regular season. By The Associated Press.

PRO BOWL COACHES

The coaching staffs of the Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys have been selected to lead the Pro Bowl teams. Anthony Lynn and his Chargers’ staff will coach the AFC team while Jason Garrett and his Cowboys’ staff coach the NFC team. By The Associated Press.

PANTHERS-FEWELL

CHARLOTTE, N.C. _ The Panthers have hired Perry Fewell as their new secondary coach. Fewell returns home bringing 34 years of coaching experience, including 21 in the NFL. He most recently served as secondary coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars allowed just 182.2 passing yards per game the last two seasons, the fewest in the NFL.

GOLF NOTES

HONOLULU _ Steve Stricker came to Hawaii for two weeks of work, just like the old days, but with a twist. Instead of starting at the winners-only field at Kapalua and then going over to the Sony Open, he started at the Sony Open and heads to the winners-only field on the Big Island for the PGA Tour Champions opener. The question is how long he stays with players his own age. By Doug Ferguson.

ON THE FRINGE-LOVES

HONOLULU _ Davis Love III is headed off to play in the Singapore Open, and so is his son. This will be the 14th time they have played in the same tournament since Davis Love IV — who goes by Dru — turned professional 18 months ago. That doesn’t include the PNC Father-Son Challenge, which they won last month with a record score. Nor does it include the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills, where Dru played his first major as a qualifier and his father caddied. By Doug Ferguson.

PGA AWARD-FERGUSON

PALM BEACH GARDENS _ Doug Ferguson of The Associated Press will receive the 2019 PGA Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism. Ferguson is the 30th recipient of the PGA award, which recognizes members of the media for steadfast coverage of golf throughout a career. Ferguson has covered more than 500 golf events.
