Man now facing murder charges in mother’s beating death

August 1, 2019

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (AP) — A man accused of attacking his mother at their southern New Jersey apartment last year is now facing murder charges after she died from her injuries.

Burlington County prosecutors say 25-year-old Brooks Nelson also faces weapons counts stemming from the attack at the Roberts Mills apartment complex in Maple Shade. It wasn’t known Thursday if he’s retained an attorney.

Authorities have said Nelson kicked, beat and stabbed 52-year-old Sherri Horton on Dec, 12. She eventually died June 9 at a Philadelphia medical facility from a blunt impact injury to her head.

Nelson left the complex in a relative’s car before police arrived, but he was arrested when he got out of the vehicle to pound on a neighbor’s door. He initially was charged with attempted murder.
