NYPD officer accused of abusing badge agrees to pay $6,000
NEW YORK (AP) — A sergeant in the New York Police Department who is accused of using his badge to get special treatment has agreed to pay a $6,000 fine.
A city disposition says Sgt. Howard Roth made clear he was in the NYPD when the city Taxi and Limousine Commission wouldn’t process paperwork for a side job. The New York Post reports the case was brought by the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board.
The COIB says Roth did the one thing he was told not to do when the board granted permission for his holding another job in the for-hire vehicle business.
Roth’s attorney says they dispute the allegations, but agrees with the outcome of the disposition and notes Roth has paid the fine.
The NYPD didn’t return a request for comment.
