Weekly chili pop-up event coming to the East Side
It can be hard to find the official state dish of Texas in San Antonio, but a weekly pop-up on the near East Side will allow chili enthusiasts to get their fix.
JD’s Chili Parlor is launching the first of what is billed as a “semi-permanent” event on Wednesday, Aug. 22, serving up a breakfast menu that dives right into lunch. It will set up in an outdoor space outside the LocalSprout Food Hub at 503 Chestnut St. from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday (weather permitting).
Owned and operated by Diana and John Anderson, JD’s Chili Parlor has been a fixture at local farmers markets throughout San Antonio and New Braunfels, using meats and ingredients from other local farms to make its food.
The breakfast menu, which will be offered from 7 to 11 a.m., will be heavy on breakfast tacos and feature unique items such as biscuits and hash brown bowls topped with a tequila chili sausage gravy.
When the menu flips to lunch after 11 a.m., expect to see a lineup of pulled pork and brisket tacos and sliders, an assortment of mac and cheese(including one made with 11 different types of cheese) and, of course, steaming bowls of chili. All of the chili available will also be sold as a Frito pie, “Chili Joe” sandwiches or topped on a salad.
The menu will change weekly and will be posted on JD’s Facebook page.
