Four arrested in Chadron on drug charges

CHADRON — Four people were arrested on drug charges Monday after Chadron Police, assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol and investigators with the WING Drug Task Force, searched a Chadron home.

In a press release, Chadron Police Chief Tim Lordino said investigators searched the home of Nicholas King, 25, of Chadron. As investigators arrived to search the home in the 300 block of Cedar Street, King pulled up in his vehicle and officers contacting King reported the strong odor of marijuana coming from his person and from within the car. During a search of the vehicle, investigators allegedly located approximately 3 grams of marijuana and 1 gram of methamphetamine along with miscellaneous items of drug paraphernalia. A search of King’s residence was conducted and items seized included methamphetamine pipes, marijuana pipes and residue amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana, Lordino said.

Additional information then lead to officers obtaining and executing a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Mears Street in Chadron. Officers seized as evidence included individually packaged baggies of marijuana, approximately 3 grams of methamphetamine, prescription pills packaged for sale, scales, baggies, hypodermic needles, pipes and numerous cellular phones, Lordino said.

As a result of the search warrants and investigation, four people were arrested:

— Nicholas King, 25, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine (Class IV felony), possession of marijuana less than one ounce (infraction) and possession of drug paraphernalia (infraction). King was transported to the Dawes County Jail and bond was set at 10 percent of $10,000.

— Derek Grinnell, 27, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute (Class IV felonies) and possession of drug paraphernalia (infraction). Grinnell was transported to the Dawes County Jail and bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000.

— Colin Ladeaux, 30, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute (Class IV felonies) and possession of drug paraphernalia (infraction). Ladeaux was transported to the Dawes County Jail and bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000.

— Brittney Priestley was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute (Class IV felonies) and possession of drug paraphernalia (infraction). Priestly was transported to the Dawes County Jail and bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000.

“These types of drug crimes lead to other criminal activity in and around Chadron,” WING investigator Matt Freeman said in the press release. “We appreciate the public’s assistance in helping our agency ‘weed out’ criminal activity like this.
