Umpire attacked by a fan in Korean baseball league
GWANGJU, South Korea (AP) — A fan ran onto the field and attacked an umpire in South Korea’s professional baseball league before being taken into police custody.
The domestic Yonhap news agency reported Thursday that a 30-year-old man climbed over an unguarded fence in the seventh inning of Wednesday night’s game between the Kia Tigers and SK Wyverns.
Yonhap says the man wrapped his arm around umpire Park Keun-young’s neck before he was dragged away by SK’s first base coach and a security guard and taken into police custody.
No details were available on the identity of the man, or if he was charged by police.
The Tigers won 6-3 and manager Sun Dong-yol later apologized for the “unpleasant incident.”
