Orlando Magic Signs Earl Boykins
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ The Orlando Magic on Monday signed 5-foot-5 guard Earl Boykins, placed forward Matt Harpring on the injured list and waived forward Armen Gilliam.
Boykins, 23, spent the 1998-99 season with the New Jersey Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 3.0 points and 1.5 assists in 22 games.
After graduating from Eastern Michigan, he started last season with Rockford of the CBA before signing as a free agent with New Jersey.
Harpring, who injured an ankle, has played in four regular season games for the Magic, averaging 4.0 points and 3.0 rebounds. Last season, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, averaging 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds.
Gilliam spent the early part of the 1999-00 season on the injured list with a lower back strain. He was acquired by the Magic with Chris Gatling in August from the Milwaukee Bucks for Dale Ellis and Danny Manning.
