Donnell Rawlings: Comic in 3-night stand at Comix

March 5, 2019

Fans of cable TV know comic Donnell Rawlings very well, principally for the meteoric comedy series that was “Chappelle’s Show” but also for MTV2’s “Guy Court” and “Guy Code,” not to mention “Staann’ Dup” on StarzBlack and episodes of “The Wire” on HBO.

He appeared in sketches on the “Chappelle’s Show” and his catchphrase, played at the end of every episode) was “I’m rich, (stylized expletive)!” He was also known for frequently adding “Son!” at the end of sentences.

Rawlings is also an experienced comic, who will have a three-night, four-show engagement at Mohegan Sun’s Comix club Thursday, March 14, through Saturday, March 15.

The 48-year-old was among the people surprised when Dave Chappelle abruptly quit his own show in the mid-2000s, but in recent years Rawlings has toured with Chappelle and done standup all over, including Manchester’s Funny Bone comedy club.

Also notable for this gig is that Comix Comedy Club recently opened its Roadhouse addition, which adds live country music, mechanical bull riding, a Texas-style food menu, 30 craft beers on tap, a full bar and even line dancing.
