Breaking: Kishwaukee Family YMCA re-opens after brief outage Monday morning

December 3, 2018

SYCAMORE – The Kishwaukee Family YMCA lost power for about 25 minutes Monday morning, but is back up and running with its regular schedule.

Mark Spiegelhoff, The Y’s CEO, said Monday morning that the power outage was not specific to the YMCA, 2500 Bethany Road, and affected a number of businesses along Bethany Road in Sycamore.

″[Power] was out for about a 25-minute window, but everything is back to normal now,” Spiegelhoff said at the front desk of the Y.

The Y was evacuated for a short time during the power loss, but members are now able to come and go freely.

“Everything is back and running and A-OK,” Spiegelhoff said.

The cause of the outage is unknown at this time, according to DeKalb patrol officer Phil Brown.

Brown was tending to a vehicle crash at Bethany Road and Commerce Drive, which occurred around the same time as the outage. Brown said the incidents are unrelated, though.

According to Brown, a red Nissan Pathfinder hit an oncoming black Oldsmobile Cutlass at the intersection around 10 a.m. Monday, but there were no injuries.
