W-B Area Hires Winter Sports Coaches For Merged Athletic Program
PLAINS- The Wilkes-Barre Area school board hired its winter coaches for the 2019-2020 sports season when the athletic programs from Meyers, GAR and Coughlin will be merged together.
Named as the head boys basketball coach is Pat Toole. The girls basketball coach will be Ross Macciacco. Toole was the head coach at Meyers; Macciacco is the former girls coach at Dunmore and assistant at Scranton Prep.
The wrestling coach will be Dave Parsnik, who was the wrestling coach at Coughlin. Danielle Kishbaugh was named the swim coach after being the head coach at Meyers.
This is the second round of hires for the merged athletic programs that will be named the Wolfpack. The girls and boys basketball teams will compete at the 6A level, while wrestling and swimming will be classified as 3A programs.
In December the school board hired the coaches for the fall sports programs. On May 23, 2018, the school board voted to merge the athletic programs of the three public schools in Wilkes-Barre. Citing a decrease in numbers in participation in athletic programs across the board, as well as diminishing win totals, the board felt it would be in the best interest to combine the three schools together. Also, the decision was made with the intent of not having to fold teams due to a lack of participation.
