CONCERT: Renaissance concludes its “The Story Never Changes” series directed by Sherry White at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Beverly Hills United Methodist Church.

SPECIAL: Zadyn Adkins, great-nephew of mine, becomes “double digits” in age Wednesday, Dec. 19, as he turns 10. One of the sweetest, caring and smartest young fells one could ever have in their family has brought such joy, fun and laughter to our family. May his birthday be a grand one filled with much happiness, love, surprises and birthday cake.

CANTATA: A Christmas cantata begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, and 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, at Central United Methodist Church.

GREETINGS: Connie Rappold, longtime Herald-Dispatch employee working in many departments, becomes another year older Friday, Dec. 21. May her day be a super one with many more to come.

TRAIN: The holiday train stops coming down the tracks bringing holiday cheer as Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society concludes the event down by the floodwall (across from visitors’ bureau at 210 11th St.) The train social begins at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 22-23. Tickets are $20 or $15 ages 2-13. Hot chocolate and cookies are served. Children receive a stuffed animal and a bell from Santa.

NOMINEES: Five area students have been nominated for the U.S. Service Academy by U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. MINISTER: Megan Turman is the interim youth minister at Steele Memorial United Methodist Church, Barboursville, replacing Bobby Bannister, recently resigning due to his work schedule. Although Megan may have some big shoes to fill, she is capable of doing a wonderful job.

BLUES: A “Blue Christmas” or “longest night” service begins at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, Barboursville. The service of remembrance and hope is open to those who find rejoicing hard work.

CHUCKLE: All day long, the little boy sat in front of the exit door of a store. Finally, the store manager became worried so he went to talk to him. “What are you doing here?” he asked the boy. “I’m waiting for Jesus,” the boy replied. “How do you know he’s coming here?” the manager asked the boy. “I heard it in church,” he explained. “Jesus will be coming through the OUT door because the preacher said there’s no room at the IN.”
