Sticht Nominated To Head RJR Nabisco
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) _ J. Paul Sticht has been nominated as chairman of the board of RJR Nabisco Inc. by the company’s board of directors, the company announced Thursday.
Sticht, who retired as chairman and chief executive officer of R.J. Reynolds Industries Inc. in 1983, will replace J. Tylee Wilson, who is taking early retirement. F. Ross Johnson, president and chief executive officer, has been nominated to take on the additional duties of chairman of the executive committee, replacing Sticht in that capacity.
The board will vote on both nominations at the regular board meeting following the annual stockholders’ meeting on April 22. Both Sticht’s and Johnson’s elections would become effective on that date.
The board also elected James O. Welch Jr. vice chairman of the board of directors. Robert J. Carbonell was elected senior executive vice president of RJR Nabisco Inc. Welch joins Edward A. Horrigan, who was elected vice chairman in 1985.
