Codefendant in Tallman Lake home invasions pleads guilty

July 4, 2018

Lee Hamilton Colby, 34, 6735 E. Butters Road, Fountain, pleaded guilty in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday to charges of three counts of home invasion second degree, habitual offender fourth offense.

If Judge Susan K. Sniegowski follows a plea and sentence agreement, Colby could face a minimum of seven years to a maximum of 50 years in prison.

Colby told the court that his co defendant pried open the doors to multiple homes to allow him to get inside, where he stole numerous items.

Colby and his co defendant Chad Fredrick Collins, 26, of Fountain were arrested after deputies recovered nearly 50 pieces of suspected stolen property in their possession.

The incident occurred back in March in the 6900 block of Lake Street in Branch Township when Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a report of breaking and entering at a residence in the Tallman Lake area, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matt Moss and Mason County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jeremy King responded to the call and found three additional break-ins of cabins in the same area.

Moss and King followed foot steps for about a half mile to another home, where the two suspects were located, police said.

A search warrant was obtained for the home, where deputies found suspected stolen property including televisions, power tools, propane tanks, yard tools and household appliances, police said.
