Bus Wreck Sends 36 Children to Hospital
DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) _ Thirty-six children were taken to a hospital, three of them with broken bones, after a gravel truck rammed a school bus that had slowed at a railroad crossing, authorities said.
None of the injuries in the accident Tuesday afternoon was critical, said Melvin Walker, administrator of Parkway Methodist Medical Center in Dyersburg. Except for the three with broken bones, the children and the bus driver were released after treatment, he said.
State Trooper Tansil Phillips said the bus was hit from the rear and pushed several hundred feet along a state highway near the rural community of Finley. He said the investigation continued and no charges had been filed.
