Chelmsford teen engulfed in flames, dies at hospital
CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say a Massachusetts teenager who became engulfed in flames at his home has died of his injuries at a Boston hospital.
A spokesman for Chelmsford police say the 17-year-old boy was engulfed in flames as he ran from his home at about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputy Police Chief Dan Ahern tells The Sun of Lowell (http://bit.ly/1LtWRBY ) that the boy was flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and died at about 3 p.m.
His name was not made public.
It was not clear what caused the fire. Ahern says a hazardous materials team was called to the scene to investigate flammable liquids.
Officials say the boy was a junior at Chelmsford High School. The school committee began its Tuesday night meeting with a moment of silence.
