NAACP a prime political forum sponsor
Political forums and debates are a time-honored way for voters to gain more insight and information on candidates running for office.
Many have been held locally throughout the years.
While the sponsors for these meaningful events have changed from time to time, there has been one consistent local organizer for the past couple of decades — the Kankakee County Branch of the NAACP.
The local NAACP is active again this year. It hosted forums for Kankakee County clerk and treasurer on Tuesday night, and will do the same again next Tuesday when a forum featuring the 79th District state representative candidates will begin at 6 p.m. at the Kankakee Public Library.
One of the most appealing aspects of the NAACP forum is its interactive nature. The assigned moderators will ask questions, but questions also are solicited from the audience and posed to the candidates as well. Do you want a specific issue addressed? Here’s your chance.
We commend each and every group that works toward informing the electorate. We again offer special praise to the NAACP for providing continuity to the effort.
