Aide charged with throwing client out of wheelchair

March 26, 2019

SALEM, Mass. (AP) — Police say a personal care attendant punched the 57-year-old man he was caring for then tipped him out of his wheelchair onto the floor.

The Salem News reports that 22-year-old Antony Cervera was held without bail after pleading not guilty Monday to assault and battery on a disabled person and other charges.

The alleged victim, who has paralysis on one side of his body, says Cervera attacked him Saturday after he told him to leave his Salem apartment because Cervera showed up for work smelling of cigarettes and alcohol.

Police tracked Cervera through a GPS device he wore because he faces similar charges in another jurisdiction and is on parole in another case.

The agency that employs Cervera could not be reached. His attorney could not be determined.
