Clinton To Travel to Oslo
WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Clinton will travel to Norway for a Nov. 2 ceremony commemorating the Oslo accords that propelled the Middle East peace process forward, White House press secretary Joe Lockhart said today.
Lockhart said the official announcement would be made later today by National Security Adviser Sandy Berger. The trip comes at a time when new Egyptian Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat are working toward a framework for a permanent peace.
The 1993 and 1995 agreements reached in Oslo involve commitments by Israel to turn over tracts of West Bank land to Palestinian control in exchange for security assurances.
