Parma police officer hurt in four-car crash that closes portion of Snow Road

PARMA, Ohio -- A Parma police officer was involved in a multiple-vehicle accident on Tuesday, according to Parma police.

The department tweeted Tuesday afternoon that one of its officers was involved in a four-car crash that resulted in the closure of Snow Road between West 54th Street and Ridge Road until further notice.

Three people, including the officer, were hurt in the crash that happened about 1:50 p.m., according to Sgt. Dan Ciryak. They were hospitalized but the extent of their injuries is not known.

Two cars were eastbound on Snow Road while two cars, including the police cruiser, were headed westbound. The officer was on a regular patrol and not in pursuit, Ciryak said.

The driver in the eastbound curb lane changed lanes. The car pushed the other eastbound car over the double yellow line into a car going in the opposite direction. That car, in turn, struck the police cruiser and pushed it into a pole, police said.

Ciryak said the department’s Twitter will announce when that portion of Snow Road reopens.
