England rejects Kaneria appeal against life ban
LONDON (AP) — The England & Wales Cricket Board has upheld a life ban against Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria for attempted match fixing, rejecting his appeal.
However the ECB’s Cricket Discipline Commission said its appeal panel reduced the sanction against Essex teammate Mervyn Westfield. Westfield had been banned for five years from February 2012 but will now be free to play from next April in English county cricket, the ECB said in a statement.
The international legspinner was found guilty last year of inducing Westfield to take part in spot-fixing and bringing the game into disrepute.
“An Appeal Panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission today upheld the life ban imposed on Mr Danish Kaneria by a disciplinary panel in June 2012,” the ECB said.
