Bellevue unveils cycling lanes, bike rental service

    August 1, 2018

BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) — A short-term bike rental service has launched in Bellevue as the city unveils a protected cycling lane that runs through downtown.

KOMO-TV reports the city partnered with LimeBike on an electric bicycle pilot program that launched Tuesday.

The city created dedicated bike lanes protected from traffic by planters and curbing. The city also has set up ten bike parking hubs in downtown and plans to install another 20.

Officials say the parking areas are intended to encourage riders to park the bikes in these zones instead of leaving them scattered along sidewalks.

The program will start with 50 electric bicycles and plans to expand to 400 by the end of August. LimeBike’s permit with the city allows up to 1,200 bikes.
