FBN--TEXANS-THOMAS CATCHING UP
HOUSTON — While most of his new teammates were relaxing on beaches or attending football games at their universities during Houston’s bye week, Demaryius Thomas was at NRG Stadium studying the playbook and watching film. Thomas, who was traded from Denver on Oct. 30, didn’t have the luxury of a break. The receiver had too much to catch up on after struggling at times in his Texans debut in a 19-17 win over his former team just five days after the trade. By Kristie Rieken. 600 words, with photos.
LANDOVER, Md. — Two surprising division leaders, the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins, meet after very different paths got each team to 6-3. The Texans are rolling as winners of six in a row and need to keep it up, while the Redskins have yet to find consistency. By Stephen Whyno. UPCOMING: 800 words, file photos. For weekend use.
FBN--COWBOYS-EMERGING VANDER ESCH
FRISCO, Texas — Leighton Vander Esch has the Dallas rookie record for tackles in a game and the first interception by a first-year linebacker for the Cowboys since Sean Lee eight years ago. ATLANTA — The Atlanta Falcons were gouged badly last week in the run game and face their toughest challenge yet, trying to stop Ezekiel Elliott and Dallas’ ground attack. Both teams are 4-5 and trying to stay relevant in the playoff race. By George Henry. 800 words, with photos. For weekend use.

WACO, Texas — Jalen Hurd made a thoughtful decision to become a receiver for one season at Baylor after being one of the top running backs in the SEC. After about 21 months without playing a game, Hurd’s transfer from Tennessee and transition to primarily catching the ball seem to be working out with the Bears. The 6-foot-4, 217-pound Hurd — down about 20 pounds from his days as a bruising between-tackles running back — is fourth in the Big 12 with 6.2 catches per game for Baylor (5-5), which can get bowl eligible with a win in its home finale Saturday against TCU. By Stephen Hawkins. SENT: 750 words, with photos.
