Padres first baseman injured
ATLANTA (AP) _ San Diego first baseman Wally Joyner sprained his right ankle and left the game in the fifth inning of Sunday’s game with Atlanta.
Joyner fielded Kenny Lofton’s bunt and injured the ankle when he lunged to tag Lofton out near first base.
Archi Cianfrocco replaced Joyner, who was taken to Piedmont Hospital for precautionary X-rays.
Joyner missed more than a month last season with a fractured left thumb sustained while breaking up a double play at Philadelphia on June 2.
