“Holmes & Watson”: Some things you just have to see for yourself. The critics hated this Sherlock Holmes spoof starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. It has a 10 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, truly rotten. It has been called “devastatingly unfunny” (Hollywood Reporter) and “lame and forgettable” (Entertainment Weekly). And yet, anyone who has watched “Step-Brothers” multiple times is going to figure that Ferrell and Reilly tap into a rich vein of stupid that critics just don’t value.

“Aquaman”: A silly movie with a serious message about mucking up the ocean is a fair enough outcome for Aquaman’s stand-alone movie debut. Apart from the underwater setting, it plays like a hodgepodge of many comic book flicks: Thor, Black Panther, Superman, Tarzan matinees. So it helps that Jason Momoa and Amber Heard are as enjoyable to watch sightseeing in Sicily as summoning the power of the seven seas.

In theaters

“Out of Blue”: In this skewed thriller, Patricia Clarkson (HBO’s “Sharp Objects”) is a detective investigating the death of an astrophysicist who specialized in black holes. That cosmic phenomenon, where light enters but cannot leave, will become a metaphor, at least, for a case that goes unexpected places.

Series

“Hanna”: If this TV series about a teenage girl raised in in the woods by her father to survive and kill seems familiar, that’s because it’s based on the 2011 movie of the same name. Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles), of course, will have plenty of opportunities to put her skills to use; her goal is to find out why. (Season 1 debuts Friday on Amazon Prime)
