PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti _ As protests over corruption roiled the Haitian capital last month, slum-dwellers began posting horrifying images of burnt and mutilated bodies online and accusing government-allied gangs of a massacre. Human-rights groups launched investigations with wildly varying findings of between 15 and 59 slain, which the U.N. and United States are trying to confirm. An Associated Press investigation has confirmed key details about a massacre that reveals the startling degradation of security in Haiti since U.N. peacekeepers left the island last year because conditions there had supposedly stabilized.
