Park, Havasu edge Lady ’Devs 3-2
MOHAVE VALLEY — Lady Knights sophomore forward Kendra Park scored two second-half goals to lead the Lady Knights past the Lady Dust Devils 3-2 at River Valley High School on Tuesday.
Dust Devils junior forward Alondra Castro and junior midfielder Kaity Read each tallied in the second half, and Knights sophomore forward Hailey Ramsey scored once in the first half during the Arizona Interscholastic Association nonconference girls soccer game.
Dust Devils head coach Ed Marquez agreed when asked if Park was a dominant force. “She’s a great player,” he said.
Ramsey beat Dust Devils senior keeper Melissa Woodruff off a penalty kick, which broke a scoreless tie with 28 seconds remaining in the first half.
Park’s goal from 25 yards put the Knights ahead 2-0 during the 54th minute.
Dust Devils freshman forward Brisa Muniz’s hustle helped draw a penalty kick, which Read converted to cut the deficit to 2-1 during the 55th minute.
Sophomore forward Sarena Bazen-Harness assisted on Park’s goal from 10 yards to the right of Woodruff, which put Havasu ahead 3-1 during the 63rd minute.
“She played like she always does,” Knights head coach Josh Kistler said. “She’s fast and she’s aggressive.”
Castro scored when her centering pass from the left wing deflected off a Havasu defender, which made it 3-2 during the 68th minute.
Havasu’s defense preserved its lead the rest of the game.
