VFW serves up free breakfast to Vietnam veterans
BULLHEAD CITY — In honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Colorado River Valley Post 10005 provided a special breakfast Friday.
“We hope to provide free breakfast to about 150 Vietnam veterans today,” said VFW Post 10005 Commander Gerry Hart. “We have a couple of things for breakfast such as eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy as well as fresh fruit and more.”
Hart said that Bullhead City Mayor Tom Brady had called him and asked if they would be willing to put on this event on for Vietnam veterans.
“I told him that I was glad to do it,” said Hart. “A lot of the Vietnam veterans didn’t get recognized when they came back from the war. So we are here to give them a very well earned thanks for serving during the Vietnam War.”
President Donald Trump in 2017 signed a proclamation regarding Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act that made March 29 National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
“I think this is a wonderful event that the VFW has put on for the Vietnam veterans,” said Judy Shirk. “Lots of Vietnam veterans weren’t shown the respect that they deserved, but events like these let them know that we are thankful for their service.”
“This is a great breakfast and the food is delicious,” said Wendell Shirk, Vietnam veteran.
“I’m grateful for the VFW to have this breakfast today and I’m grateful to be here,” said Mike Webber, Vietnam veteran.
