STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) _ Ron Stone, a two-time Pro Bowl guard in his first season with the San Francisco 49ers, will miss 2-to-4 weeks of training camp because of a sprained elbow.
Stone was injured during a kicking play in the 49ers’ 38-7 exhibition loss to Washington in Japan. His elbow is not dislocated, and coach Steve Mariucci hopes Stone will see action in at least the 49ers’ final exhibition game.
``He’ll stay close to the action and keep learning from the meetings and get in good shape,″ Mariucci said Monday.
Stone, who spent the past six seasons with the New York Giants, is the second member of San Francisco’s starting offensive lineman to miss time during the preseason.
Jeremy Newberry, the 49ers’ Pro Bowl center, missed the trip to Japan because of a strained calf muscle. Newberry did some light jogging Monday, but he is expected to miss at least another week.
Dave Fiore, the starting right guard last season who switched to left guard when Stone was signed, was San Francisco’s starting center against the Redskins.
