Local Roundup: Lunenburg’s Gardner Places First in Four Events

LUNENBURG -- David Gardner had a day for the ages on Tuesday, winning the mile, 800-meter run, triple jump and pole vault to lead the Lunenburg boys’ track team to a 72-64 win over visiting Tyngsboro.

Other winners for Lunenburg (1-1) included Joe Rivers (1st, shot put; 1st, discus; 3rd, 100 dash), Robbie Nash (1st, javelin; 1st, 400), Anthony Iannacci (1st, long jump; 1st, 100 dash; 2nd, 200), Michael Alleva (1st, 2-mile) and Sam Barto (1st, 400 hurdles; 2nd, pole vault; 2nd, 110-meter hurdles).

Also performing well for the Blue Knights were Frank Nelson (2nd, javelin), Chayton Dance (3rd, javelin), Kaden Palma (3rd, long jump), Trae Bush (3rd, 110 hurdles) and Ben Sweet (3rd, 800).

Amber Green won the long jump and 400-meter hurdles, and also finished second in the 100 hurdles and third in the high jump, to lead Lunenburg to victory.

Other top performers for the Blue Knights (3-0) included Nicole Lawrence (1st, high jump; 2nd, triple jump; 2nd, 400 hurdles; 3rd, 100 hurdles), Latifah Ouro-Sama (1st, triple jump; 1st, 200 dash; 3rd, long jump; member of winning 4x100-meter relay team); and Isabella Brackett (1st, 100 dash; 2nd, high jump; member of winning 4x100-meter relay team).

Also earning firsts for Lunenburg were Genevieve Farr (1st, javelin; 3rd discus), Gabby Maia (1st, pole vault; 2nd, 400 run; member of winning mile relay team), Lauren Long (1st, 2-mile), Devin Tormey (1st, 100 hurdles; 2nd 100 dash), Paige Gengler (1st, 400) and Abby Rodriquenz (1st, 800).

Rounding out the top performances on the day for Lunenburg were Camille Elbthal (2nd, shot put), Grace Richard (2nd, discus; member of winning 4x100-meter relay team), Megan McKenna (2nd javelin; 3rd, shot put), Olivia Farr (2nd, pole vault; member of winning 4x100-meter relay team), Grace Roy (2nd, 2-mile), Ava Pilon (2nd, mile; 3rd, 800), Keena Kelly (2nd, 800), Julia Pilon (3rd, triple jump; 3rd, 400 hurdles), Alivia Smith (3rd, 100 dash), Angelika Helmer (3rd, 200; member of winning mile relay team), Maddie Sullender (member of winning mile relay team) and Breda Page-Violet (member of winning mile relay team).

Monty Tech swept the discus and mile en route to its first win of the season. Top performers were Cami Haas (1st, triple jump; 1st, mile; 1st, 800) and Kat Tremblay (1st, shot put; 1st, 100-meter dash). Other first-place finishers for Monty Tech included Kelsey Dowd (discus), Valerie Guzman (javelin), Alexis Kenny (long jump, 400) and Mariah Valliere (200).

Stovaldy Saint-Charles led Leominster (6-2) with 17 service points in the thrilling victory. Also for the Blue Devils, captain Kurt Edmands had 14 service points while Ruchit Patel and Dylan Pearson also played well.

Visiting Worcester Tech fell to 6-3 on the season. Set scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-13, 18-25 and 15-6.
