Appalachian Children’s Chorus to host a 5K fundraiser
CHARLESTON — The Appalachian Children’s Chorus (ACC) is seeking runners and walkers for an inaugural Miles of Melodies 5K Race, sponsored by the Kanawha Piano Gallery.
The 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, at 9 a.m. at the University of Charleston.
Various music groups will be arrayed along the course to serenade runners and walkers with music throughout the race.
The Miles of Melodies 5K is the initial race for the organization as well as the final fundraising effort for ACC’s 2018-19 year.
“ACC is wrapping up its 28th year in West Virginia where we have been able to positively impact over 3,700 children,” said Selina Midkiff, Founding and Artistic Director of the Appalachian Children’s Chorus. “In all these years, we have never turned away a child because of financial hardship,
in fact, 100% of our choristers receive some sort of financial assistance. We continue to be deeply appreciative of the community who attends our events and supports us so generously.”
Awards will be presented by age group as well as first, second and third overall male and female.
Additionally, first-place male and female teams (four members) and first-place mixed teams (two each male and female members) will be awarded.
Special awards will also be presented to the best musically dressed as well as the best solo, duo and trio.
All proceeds from the 5K will support ACC in its mission to provide artistic excellence, a quality music education and extraordinary opportunities while creating a positive effect on the lives of West Virginia’s youth.
