Police: man spends more than $10,000 with stolen credit card

January 2, 2019

STRATFORD - A Bridgeport man was arrested after police said he used an elderly women’s bank card to roll up more than $10,000 in purchases from local stores.

Hatim Jaoulane, 40, of Maplewood Avenue, was charged Wednesday with second-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny and illegal use of a credit card.

He was being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.

Police said a Stratford woman recently complained that her 88-year-old mother’s People’s United Bank debit card had been stolen and had subsequently been used to make a total of more than $10,000 in purchases at the Home Depot stores in Bridgeport, Fairfield and Derby, the Trumbull Target and Walmart’s in Stratford and Shelton.

Police said they reviewed the video surveillance for the stores and identified Jaoulane, who has a previous criminal record, making purchases with the victim’s bank card
