Maine teen denies murder charge in grandmother death
WEST BATH, Maine (AP) — Prosecutors are charging the 16-year-old grandson of Beulah “Marie” Sylvester with killing the 55-year-old woman in a Bowdoinham mobile home the two shared.
The Bangor Daily News reports that Dominic Sylvester’s attorney Tom Berry entered a “denial” on his client’s behalf. A denial is the equivalent of a not guilty plea in juvenile court.
Berry said the teen learned of Sylvester’s death while at Mid Coast Hospital, where he was taken after the incident. The newspaper reports that Marie Sylvester was raising him as her son.
Police say they responded Feb. 26 morning to the mobile home of Marie Sylvester and found her unresponsive. No additional details about the incident were included in public court documents.
