Israeli Army Reports Explosion

April 15, 2001

JERUSALEM (AP) _ An explosion went off Sunday near a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, according to the Israeli army. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The blast along a road connecting settlements in the West Bank to Israel came a day after two pipe bombs exploded in the Tel Aviv suburb of Kfar Saba, injuring one Israeli seriously.

Sunday’s explosion occurred near an Israeli army checkpoint and the Palestinian city of Kalkilia. The area is only a few miles from Kfar Saba, just across from the so-called green line that divides the West Bank and Israel.

Israel radio also reported that the blast caused no injuries. Israeli military sources said they did not know what kind of device caused the explosion, but that it was believed to have been planted alongside the road. No damage was reported.
