LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Fire destroyed an apartment in the city's Koreatown neighborhood early Friday, killing three people, authorities said.

The blaze on the top floor of the three-story building started shortly before 5 a.m., said Jim Wells, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. No other injuries were reported, he said.

It took 75 firefighters about a half-hour to put out the flames, Wells said.

The fire was confined to one unit, said Deputy Chief Mario Rueda. The victims, who could not be immediately identified, appeared to have been sleeping when the fire started, he said.

Authorities believe the blaze started accidentally, Rueda said.
