UPike picked third in Mid-South poll
HUNTINGTON — Mid-South Conference (NAIA) coaches picked the Pikeville Bears for third place in the Appalachian Division and tabbed the Kentucky Christian Knights to finish sixth in the Bluegrass Division. Coaches only voted for teams in their division.
Defending champion Reinhardt (Georgia), which advanced to the 2017 NAIA championship game, is the Appalachian Division favorite, receiving six of the seven first-place votes. Bluefield (Virginia) was second and picked up the other first-place nod.
Pikeville (5-6 overall, 3-3 conference in 2017) was third followed by Kentucky colleges Cumberland and Union, Point (Georgia) and St. Andrews (North Carolina).
Bluegrass Division preseason favorite Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky) picked up five of the seven available first-place votes. The Blue Raiders reached the NAIA quarterfinals in 2017. Rounding out the division were Georgetown (Kentucky), Campbellsville (Kentucky), Cumberland (Kentucky), Bethel (Tennessee), Kentucky Christian (Kentucky) and Cincinnati Christian.
Kentucky Christian from Grayson comes off a 1-10 season and was 1-5 in league games.
The Mid-South Conference also has a Sun Division made up of Southeastern (Florida), Faulkner (Alabama), Webber International (Florida), Warner (Florida), Keiser (Florida), Ave Maria (Florida) and Edward Waters (Florida).
