Sounders end RSL unbeaten streak with 4-0 win
SEATTLE (AP) — Marco Pappa, Chad Barrett and Obafemi Martins scored in the second half as the Seattle Sounders ended Real Salt Lake’s season-opening unbeaten streak at 12 games with a 4-0 victory Saturday in a game between the two top teams in Major League Soccer.
Gonzalo Pineda also scored on a first-half penalty for the Sounders.
Salt Lake also had an overall 16-game regular-season unbeaten streak end. RSL hadn’t lost since last Sept. 21 at home against San Jose, 2-1.
D.C. United’s Fabian Espindola scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City, while Andres Romero scored in the4 third minute and Jack McInerney found the net in the 38th as the Montreal Impact’s downed the New England Revolution 2-1.
At Frisco, Texas, Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi broke a deadlock in the 45th minute as San Jose beat FC Dallas 2-1 for its first away victory of the season.
Blas Perez opened the scoring for Dallas in the 16th minute, and Atiba Harris leveled it in the 27th
Pierazzi scored with a right-footed volley from 25 yards out that landed just inside the near post and over the fingertips of goalkeeper Chris Seitz.
At Toronto, Jermain Defoe scored twice and Doneil Henry headed in the winner in injury time as Toronto FC beat the Columbus Crew 3-2, and Conor Casey scored two goals as the Philadelphia Union downed Chivas USA 3-0.
