Nancy Kerrigan To Add ‘Mom’ To Her List of Titles

May 7, 1996

BOSTON (AP) _ Nancy Kerrigan will soon be trading her skating dresses for maternity outfits.

The two-time Olympic figure skating medal winner and her husband/manager, Jerry Solomon, are expecting their first child in December, a spokeswoman said today. The two were married last year in Boston.

Kerrigan, 26, is traveling with the Tour of World Figure Skating Champions and will continue to skate at least until mid-July, when the tour ends, said Elena Doyle, of P.S./StarGames in Boston, which represents Kerrigan.

``She will be skating for the time being and she has spoken with her doctors and right now she will continue until he tells her otherwise,″ Doyle said.

Solomon has one son from a previous marriage.

Kerrigan, a bronze medal winner in the 1992 Olympics, became a household name when a crony of rival skater Tonya Harding clubbed her on the knee in January 1994, prior to the United States Figure Skating championships. The attack prevented Kerrigan from competing.

But Kerrigan recovered to win a silver medal at the 1994 Games. Harding finished out of the running. She eventually pleaded guilty to helping cover up the attack on Kerrigan and was fined and placed on probation. She was also barred for life from the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
