Turbulence Gives Disney-Bound Passengers Early Roller Coaster Ride
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ Several of the 239 passengers on an Eastern Airlines flight suffered bumps and bruises when the jumbo jet hit turbulence that gave them a brief roller coaster ride as they finished lunch.
″The pilot came on and apologized for giving everyone an early touch of Space Mountain,″ said Tony Carcione of Staten Island, N.Y., referring to a Disney ride. He was among the passengers who boarded the plane at Newark, N.J., and were headed for Walt Disney World near here.
Said Carcione, ″A lot of people were screaming. Food was flying everywhere.″
Orlando-bound Flight 701 hit the turbulence Tuesday at 31,000 feet 60 miles north of Charleston, S.C., said Eastern spokesman Glenn Parsons in Miami. It lasted about two minutes.
One flight attendant was briefly hospitalized with bruises on her head and foot, officials of Eastern and the Orlando International Airport said.
